Tom Holland has made an emotional admission about why he decided to give up drinking.

The Spider-Man actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where he opened up about giving up drinking and introducing his own, alcohol-free beverage.

Holland also spoke about returning as Spider-Man in the fourth instalment of the franchise, confirming that filming will begin next summer.

"It's happening. Next summer we start shooting. Everything is good to go, we're nearly there. Super exciting. I can't wait," he said.

Holland revealed on the Rich Roll podcast last week that he had already read a draft of the script with girlfriend, Zendaya.

“I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” he said.

“Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”

Since Holland shot the third movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, he's been through some challenges in his personal life, explaining that he decided to give up drinking around a year ago.

“As any celebrity there's always opportunities to go down the commercial route and build brands," Holland told Fallon.

"I never found anything I was particularly passionate about.

"... I got sober and I got through my first year, which for me was a massive milestone and a huge achievement.

"It needed to happen. I had some very honest conversations with family and friends, got through it and did that first year. I tried to start with a month off and what really scared me was how difficult I found it.

"And then I did a second month, it got no easier, I did a third month and then I said, 'if I can get to June 1st which is my birthday, I will have proved to myself that I don't have a problem'.

"But then by the time I got to June 1st, I felt the benefits of not drinking. I was sleeping better, handling stuff better and I kind of thought the thing that's missing from the equation for me right now is something that could make me feel included in a restaurant, in a bar."

Tom went on to create his own alcohol-free beer, BERO, which is described as 'not a substitute' but a 'gold standard in beer'.

Speaking on Instagram, Holland explained that 'BERO was born out of a personal journey and I couldn’t be prouder to be launching it'.
